Best Tamil Novels - An amateur look 2

 1-7 here:

8. Oru Puliyamarathin Kadhai (ஒரு புளியமரத்தின் கதை) by சுந்தர ராமசாமி (சுரா): A very different approach indeed. It was been translated into English (Tale of a Tamarind Tree, Penguin India, New Delhi), Hindi (Imli Puran, Nilakant Prakashan,), Malayalam (Oru Puliyamarathinte Katha, D.C.Books) and into Hebrew language (by Ronit Ricci, Hakibbutz Hameuchaud Publishing House).

More detailed review of this book is available here and here

9. Thaneer (தண்ணீர்) by Ashokamitran: Different approach once again. It is just around 90 odd pages and can be completed in a brisk pace. Though the story background primarily deals with water scarcity problem, it also touches upon the human value's and human's relationship through the primary "Jamuna's" character. Just found the online version of this book is available here

(Ottran) by Ashokamitran: A Completely different from his 'Thaneer' novel. Ashokamitran's another brilliant work.  Anybody who is going for onsite work to US should surely read this book :)

11. Sujatha's selected short stories (First Volume) சுஜாதாவின் தேர்ந்தெடுத்த சிறுகதைகள்(முதல் தொகுதி)  by Sujatha: Brilliant work from Sujatha. This selected stories from Sujatha first volume contains around 50 short stories written by him in early 70's.

(taken from the book)

One thing that amazes me is that even after reading it nearly 40 years later, the stories are still fresh and can still hold the reader's attention. A must have book for all sujatha fan's and also for people who haven't read Sujatha's work before.
